The first rooms I tackled were our kitchen and bedroom. That probably says it all about my priorities! But the room that holds my favorite things would have to be our office/library where all my books reside. This is the first room you see when you walk through our front door.
Here is how it looked for the first month after we moved in, complete with the old carpet.

And this is the room now.

| The empty shelf is where the kids keep their school baskets. They must have been working on school when I took this picture. |
Paint is at the top of the list of things to do to this room, but oh my, it is not a job I am looking forward to. I also have an idea of moving the shelves that I want to try. The shelves are anchored to the wall so I need to be serious about painting before we go to the effort to move all this. And I need to do something with the tops of the shelves....still mulling that one over.
Today I have some house keeping to do and I want to get chili simmering in the crockpot because we have a busy afternoon and evening ahead. I get to spend some time with my book club friends which I am really looking forward to.
"When handled with care, a home enables a person or family to move out into the world with deep resources to draw upon: a volume of memories where close relationships were forged through mealtimes, celebrations, special traditions, shared tears and laughter, and the reciprocal experience of caring and being cared for." ~Andi Ashworth

love the wall of shelves. :)
One step at a time really does get us there, doesn't it? I like your priorities..good home made food and sleep are so necessary.
it looks great...sounds like you have a wonderful perspective on settling in....I think you'll enjoy it more that way. The room is so bright and with all those books, I'd be sittig right there reading away. Have fun at book club!
It's really coming together..looks great!
Wow! You shaped everything right up, Leslie! It looks clean and inviting. You're so wise to take it slow and let the ideas come.
I see why you love this room! The floors are beautiful and I love the wall of books.

Leslie,
I am in that same process....taking it one bit at a time, trying to make my newly painted, newly windowed house cozy and what I envision it being. It does take GOBS of time to get everything right, even if it isn't perfect. "Not perfect" is often the best look of all.
I like your globes up there on top of the book shelf. How about a big map of Texas or other mappy things (framed Nat'l Geographi maps)?
Jody (who likes maps)
I think this room looks great! Wood floors and books are such nice "ingredients."
I think the tops of your shelves look nice as they are, but if you really want something up there, how about square storage baskets? That would take some of the woodiness higher in the room, and who doesn't need a little extra storage?
I've been working on my house for awhile now, and it does take loads of time. I don't look forward to paint jobs, either, but we've got a couple looming in our future, I fear. I need to read a book about indoor plants. I love them, but seem to have a black thumb
Lovely room!

Beautiful! Love those bookshelves and the big window. I do know exactly what you mean about the thoughtfulness and intentionalness of each room. We've been taking our time post addition. There are several rooms with nothing on the walls yet.
Blessings!
Deborah
What a transformation! The room looks amazing now. I think it makes sense to take time over getting your home how you want it - rushing at it only makes you compromise to get it done.

Your office/library is exceptional! Maybe one day I will able able to convince my husband to provide shelves in this house for all of my books. One day I might do a post on where the majority of my books reside...you would feel very special then!
