Merry Christmas from my family to yours!
(My enthusiastic and encouraging friend of several decades, Ann, asked if I made our stockings and yes, many years ago I somehow found the time and fortitude to cross stitch all 6 of our stockings. My mom sewed them together for me and so I cross stitched one of her very own, too.)

Squirt is a big .... girl? No curly tail feathers leads me to believe he might actually be a she. Note her pretty white speckles on her neck.
* Ducks quacking at my fence wanting to be fed with Squirt leading the flock.
* My new handmade-by-my-husband headboard. I got an idea, my sweetie executed the idea, and it turned out fabulous! (Picture coming soon.....maybe.)
* Cleaning out my closet because all my clothes are way too big! (I'm at 35 pounds lost now.)

Two coyotes staring us down as I rolled my window down to take pictures. Sure glad I was in the car! They seemed to find us almost as interesting as we found them to be.
* Mike and I felt led to host a reunion of sorts for family who rarely sees each other and it went really well!! I can't believe we forgot to take pictures, but hopefully we are starting a new tradition.

The drive to church is one of my favorite things. It is fun and funny business. (One of the above children is a friend...just in case you are wondering where we picked up a 5th child.)
* A fajita date with my husband. It was preceded by a funeral, but sometimes sobering things like that make for the best conversations afterwards.
* Christmas sadness...yes, even sadness can be a joy. Broken relationships, difficult people, memories of loved ones no longer with us, limitations of finances, physical ability, and time. All these things seem to lurk in the back of my mind especially during this season. But instead of it being depressing to me, it has made me realize all the more what Jesus has done for me. He has given me Hope, Joy, Love and Peace, but even more than those things, He has given me HIMSELF. And that makes all the difference.
A child in a foul stable,
Where the beasts feed and foam;
Only where He was homeless
Are you and I at home:
We have hands that fashion and heads that know,
But our hearts we lost—how long ago!
In a place no chart nor ship can show
Under the sky's dome.
To an open house in the evening
Home shall men come,
To an older place than Eden
And a taller town than Rome.
To the end of the way of the wandering star,
To the things that cannot be and that are,
To the place where God was homeless
And all men are at home.
Where the beasts feed and foam;
Only where He was homeless
Are you and I at home:
We have hands that fashion and heads that know,
But our hearts we lost—how long ago!
In a place no chart nor ship can show
Under the sky's dome.
To an open house in the evening
Home shall men come,
To an older place than Eden
And a taller town than Rome.
To the end of the way of the wandering star,
To the things that cannot be and that are,
To the place where God was homeless
And all men are at home.

Hi Leslie!
The family photo is wonderful!
Your conclusion is what it is all about...the grand finale.
But I must say your family portrait is beautiful!
And please do post a picture of the headboard, I have been desiring a different headboard for some time now.
Thanks for sharing your simple joys! And you are right - having Jesus makes all the difference :-)
Merry Christmas, too, Leslie! Wonderful pix!
Squirt, a girl? Hmmmm ... I'm going to have to readjust my thinking.
Have you written about your weight-loss plan? I'm really struggling to lose another twenty. Hints? Tips? Please share!

Merry Christmas to you...what a beautiful family photo. I like your honesty, because it's there for each one of us...difficulties, illness, attitudes...but let us all rejoice at this time of year!
Dear'st LeslieD ~ O, what a BYOOOOtiful Family Portrait and I could immediately see how 'trim' you are looking! As a lifelong struggler, I SO congratulate and applaud you on your success. :o))) And, as others have said, details about it are always welcome! We just returned from TX and were just down the road apiece from you [in Frisco], but knew that each day would be hectic, as we commuted back and forth to Arlington to be with both sisterJulie [undergoing chemo for breast cancer] and brotherMike [in remission from bone marrow cancer/ multiple myeloma - PRAISE GOD] - and their families, going and coming -- so knew the 'logistics' [ask us how many times we saw that word on trucks on the interstates!!!] would be daunting. HATE to miss sitting and enjoying a few minutes with you, my Ever-Delightful and Uplifting Friend-Sister-Dotter, as it would have been one of my Best Gifts of the Season. So, here I am at your blog, which always satisfies in delightful and joyful and thoughtful ways. THANK YOU for the links to the books you've read and for ALL of it, photos, ideas, etc. LOVE to you and all the family and prayers for a gloriously blessed 2012. ~ ann in faith/ pat, too !!! :o)))
I am even more impressed to find out that you stitched those stockings on linen, perhaps? I have a project that I started on linen and I need to finish it this year, but MY GOODNESS! I am going to have to get a huge magnifying glass to do it. My eyes are sadly not what they used to be. - But I so love the look of cross-stitch on linen. It looks more authentic since I think that is what they originally used to stitch on and it is so much more pliable and the texture is so nice.
