Simple Joys

* black bean avocado salad, homemade guacamole, fresh corn, blueberries and pineapples

* pork chops on the grill

Sara's new dress.

* my stylish daughter

* the book Heaven - highly recommend

* a new neighborhood book club and meeting new people (even if the book is not all that good)

* your book recommendations - I put all the available ones on hold at the library and have already been once and have a whole new batch waiting for me right now.

* overhearing my smart daughter give really good advice to a friend with a problem

* dense foliage, swarms of butterflies, green grass snakes all spotted while walking the trail in our neighborhood

* sighting and hearing red winged blackbirds & bluebirds

Bubba and Squeak being silly. They have adjusted very well to pond living.

* duck hineys in the air

* people who rehab injured birds, including ducks with broken wings

* sipping morning coffee on the back porch, sometimes reading, sometimes chatting with various family members who come out and sit with me at various times, sometimes just staring into space thinking thoughts

Hawk feather? It's at least 7 inches long.

* a feather found by one of my kids and brought home to me because they knew I would love it

* walking in the morning (I know...yes, it is still me, Leslie.)

* lively Sunday lunches

* when the phone rings and it is actually Somebody, somebody I WANT to talk to, as opposed to nobody, or nobody who is looking for a certain individual who used to own this house (one reason not to buy a foreclosure - the various money collectors will find your number, even if you have had the same number for almost 20 years and you have no knowledge of the foreclosed upon person, and then they will persist in calling you many, many times until you want to pull out your hair, even when you explain they do not live here and to please. please, PLEASE STOP calling, you find that you are even tempted to start looking for the foreclosed upon person yourself because it is a mystery that must be solved so that you will not be tempted to pull the phone out of the wall and fling it into the nearest turtle infested pond....but I digress...this is NOT a joy)

* sitting by the pond with my husband watching the sun go down

* talking to neighbors by the pond

* making my summer reading goal of reading through the whole Bible

* crape myrtles that add such great color to a Texas summer, especially pink and red ones

Daddy is on the far left with his hands on my uncle's shoulders.

* remembering my daddy on the 14th anniversary of his home going

* your advice on paint colors- thank you!

* reading through the Psalms and being encouraged that God's love for me is steadfast, constant, firm, resolute, and steady

What are some of your simple joys?

  3. I am curious, what color did you finally decide upon? I like blue for color decorating these days too.

Simple joys abound in the good 'ole summertime.

    * the smell of rain that God so blessed us with last night. A true bona fide summer t- storm with lots of rain!
*fresh tomatoes to cook simple meals of tarts and pasta sauce, goes wonderfully with the fresh basil in my herb garden

*summer dresses to wear...and I do like Sara's.

  7. Another Joy-FULL list! Loved the duck butts tipped up in the pond!

Simple joys here would include seeing baby robins learning to feed themselves.

Cool nights after scorching hot days.

  8. These were all so wonderful!
    Some of my simple joys....
The quiet of the early morning around here, the way my sheep greet me in the morning, (it could be the bucket of grain in my hand...), the sounds of the birds in the trees, sunsets, sunrises, going out on Friday night with my Hubby for ice cream.

  10. Hi Leslie,

I'm new to your blog but got here from the comment you newly left on mine! The simple joy of yours I like best is "duck hineys in the air"!

My simple joys are sunshine and rain (when they occur at the same time), the first bite of a nicely ripe, fresh, juicy peach, and seeing a grace of God in my life I never noticed before.

    Beautiful blog!

  13. Your daughter is totally stylish...I love turquoise with red and yellow!!! I do love art...making it, seeing art in everything (you may like the book "The Artist's Way" which is excellent for one who may not consider themselves an artist...or for an artist to gather more inspiration in the wonderful world around them)! Right now, I find beauty and happiness in watching things grow in my backyard garden. Green tomatoes, turning red, watermelon, cucumbers, kale... God is so good to us.
